所以万物失去生机，阴阳不交，导致天地不通，地中的阴气下降，小雪分为三候: 一候虹藏不见；二候天气上升地气下降；三候闭塞而成冬。由于天空中的阳气上升，天地闭塞而转入严寒的冬天。
The Minor Snow is divided into three phenological periods:The first period is when the rainbow is hidden and cannot be seen.The second period is when the weather is getting colder and the energy of the earth is descending.The third period is when everything becomes closed and winter sets in. Due to the rising of the yang energy in the sky and the descending of the yin energy in the earth, the communication between the sky and the earth is blocked, and the interaction between yin and yang is disrupted, causing all living things to lose their vitality. This leads to the closure of sky and earth and the onset of severe cold in winter.

古人认为，所以“虹藏不见”。天地不交，而此时阴气旺盛阳气隐伏，天虹出现是因为天地间阴阳之气交泰之故，

由于天气的寒冷，万物的气息飘移和游离几乎停止，故三候曰“闭塞而成冬”。

冬腊风腌，蓄以御冬
Making Preserved Pork
民间有:冬腊风腌，蓄以御冬的习俗。小雪时节气温急剧下降，天气变得干燥，等到春节时正好享受美食。很多地方都有冬季吃腊肉的习俗，更是对腊味情有独钟。广州人最喜欢用腊味来做腊味萝卜糕、腊味煮香芋，把多余的肉煮敬乎类用传统方法储备起来，是加工腊肉的好时候。一些农家开始动手做香肠、腊肉，尤其是南方城市，还有腊肠炒蜜豆。
