In order to further enhance the study experience of international students and improve the quality of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, CIE held a mid-term teaching symposium on November 2, 2023. Pei Bei, dean of CIE, Hou Zhengzheng, director of the Academic Affairs Office, Zhang Zhongyang, administration teacher of Academic Affairs Office, and representatives of international students from various colleges across the university attended the symposium.
At the symposium, Dean Pei Bei and academic affairs teachers held discussions with student representatives on topics such as classroom conditions, teaching methods, assignments, learning experiences, difficulties, and learning needs. International student representatives actively voiced their views and feelings on various aspects, including teaching arrangements, teaching content, classroom interaction, assignment grading, classroom discipline, internship practice, management services, etc. Some students mentioned the academic pressure caused by language barriers; some students made suggestions on teaching calendar arrangements; some students made suggestions on teachers’ teaching methods. The Dean and academic affairs teachers actively answered questions raised by students, fostering frequent interaction between teachers and students, creating a lively atmosphere.
Dean Pei Bei fully consented the opinions and suggestions put forward by the student representatives. She said that the college would carefully classify, sort out, feedback the opinions and suggestions, and actively improve them in the future work. At the same time, she put forward hopes and requirements: She hoped that the students would strengthen their self-management awareness, abide by the teaching discipline, improve their ability of independent learning, actively integrate into China, complete their studies successfully and make achievements in the future life.
The feedback and opinions of students are important means to help teachers improve their teaching quality. This symposium provides a platform for international students to communicate directly face-to-face, listen to their voices, implement and promote the improvement of the quality of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and help improve the quality and efficiency of international student talent cultivation.
